Small Group Whale Watching Experience

Who We Are

Whale watching in the Hoonah area is an incredible experience. Seeing humpback whales in their natural environment, whether swimming, feeding, or putting on an acrobatics show is an everylasting memory to cherish. Occasional Killer Whale sightings are the absolute icing on the cake!

After working for existing area boat operators for many years, we will soon be launching our own small whale watching tour expedition at the end of September 2025 to accommodate the 2026 season visitors who want a small, personal tour experience when whale watching in our neighborhood. Our whale watching tours are named "WHALES OF XUNAA" - Xunaa in Tlingit (pronounced "Klinkit") translates to Hoonah in English.

Captain Paul moved to Alaska in 1984, then to Juneau in 1986 and to Hoonah in 2007. He has a combined time at sea of nearly 40 years. Paul and his family have been very involved in the daily life of Hoonah residents - Captain Paul has served Hoonah as a Police Officer, EMT, Fire Chief and even worked for public works, the school and ISP. His wife Mary manages the Airport and works for Alaska Marine Trucking and they’ve raised three amazing kids in Hoonah.

Captain Paul loves Hoonah and the sea and is looking forward to sharing both with you. He has been conducting whales watch tours for 13 years and has over 5,000 hours on the water with whales.

OUR TOURS

Our vessel is a 27-foot Safeboat with twin Yamaha 250's named Orca, previously a patrol boat for the Alaska State Troopers. You’ll be comfortable, safe and dry in a heated cabin. We are a small boat experience with six seats in total.
